Cat Behavior Problems
What is the number one reason that a cat will have behavior problems? STRESS!
Stress manifests itself in cats in many ways. Two such categories of stress are urinary problems and feline aggression.You must first do some investigating and figure out what caused the stress. This can be a new cat being adopted at a home with a dog, change in the litterbox, a new cat in the household, or perhaps someone in the family is mistreating the cat.
Take your cat to the veterinarian. This will confirm or deny whether your cat has a medical problem. You will quickly be able to know if your cat has a UTI infection. If not, cross it off your list and move to the next item. In this way, you will go through the process of elimination.Are you using different litter? Are you not cleaning it as often as the cat would like? Is the cat adjusting to a new home? By asking yourself these questions, you can pinpoint what you think is wrong. Using a squirt bottle for clawing in your home is almost always effective. Give your cat some time to adjust to whatever situation she is dealing with. If you need extra help, talk with your veterinarian. You may want to also call your local shelter and ask if there is someone there who answers behavioral questions. You may need to call around, but they are out there and they are good sources and references to use.
